Game Cancellation Procedure
Game Cancellation Procedures
Coach & Coordinators Responsibility
Anytime an entire day of home games must be canceled due to poor weather conditions. The decision will be made by Kathy Gigliotti. Games are played during light rain provided there is no thunder or lightning. We will make every attempt to get through to the coaches via the coordinators. If you do not hear from us go to the field. Especially if the game is early, if it doesn’t rain until 10:00 we can get the 8:00 game in, we will.
It will be the responsibility of the referee to cancel under poor weather conditions once at the field. If you have a young referee, please help them make a responsible decision if the conditions are not acceptable to play; however it is their final decision.
It is the responsibility of the other organization to contact you if their home games need to be canceled.
In an emergency situation arises resulting in the need for you to cancel a game, you must get an officers permission to do so. Teams must provide 24 hours notice of canceling a game per WyomingValley rules. Failure to do so subjects the team/club to a fine and reimbursement of the referee fees.
This is the proper procedure:
1. Get permission from a Stoner Soccer officer.
2. Contact the opposing coach and ask for several tentative dates to reschedule.
Keep in mind Sundays, Friday nights, or your practice day is a good option.
3. Contact the referee assigner so he/she can cancel the referee assigned to the game.
In the past we had referees show up for games that no one told them was canceled.
4. When ready to reschedule, contact your age coordinator. They will know when the field is available and make sure a referee is also there. Remember to have several tentative dates worked out between yourself and the other coach before you call.
The age coordinator will then:
1. Confirm that the field is available, and get a referee assigned for one of your tentative dates.
2. He/she will call or email you with that information. You will inform the other coach.
We want all coaches to try and reschedule canceled games for your practice day, Sundays or Friday nights. This will eliminate having to bump another team from their practice night. If an entire day of games is canceled we will try and add another day at the end of the season. On days when it rains badly please be patient and prepared for some possible confusion.
Coaches Code of Conduct
The coach's role is one of teaching soccer skills and sportsmanship of the players. The coach is responsible for monitoring the behavior of the players and parents during practices and games. Unsportsmanlike conduct from coaches will not be tolerated. Such unsportsmanlike conduct includes berating or making unkind comments to a player or referee. Each coach agrees to the code of conduct, certifies that he/she has read all Pittston Stoners & WVYSA Rules and will abide by them and acknowledges that coaching a youth soccer team is a privilege and not a right.
Coach Responsibilities:
Know the official Laws of the Game of soccer and the rules of Pittston Stoners & WVYSA, and abide by them. Instruct player and parents in the rules and motivate each player to compete according to the rules at all times. Respect the game officials at all times. Refrain from questioning their decisions or challenging their authority. Ensure that rules are followed by all players and spectators. Ensure that fans of his or her team exhibit sportsmanship and maturity at all times and assist league and game officials in maintaining control of spectators during games. Respect the coaches, players and fans of the opposing team before, during, and after the game. Teach each player, especially through personal example, to be humble and generous in victory and proud and courteous in defeat. Maintain control of his/her motions and avoid actions, language, and/or gestures that may be interpreted as hostile and humiliating. Teach and practice good sportsmanship and fair play by personally demonstrating commitment to these virtues. Promote the concept that soccer is merely a game, and that players and coaches of other reams are opponents, not enemies.
Failure to follow these guidelines could result:
Suspension from games Suspension from season Removal from program
